The owner partnered with Barefoot Construction to bring this vision to life, and despite the challenging terrain of Bowen Island, we embraced the project with enthusiasm. The result is something everyone involved can be proud of.

Working with Shevi on her property has been an absolute delight. With a clear vision to create comfortable, and beautiful outdoor gathering spaces that enhance the guest experience at her stunning Mount Gardner property, we chose high-quality, locally sourced materials and non-toxic finishes to bring this vision to life. Balancing artistic accents with thoughtfully designed built-in seating, we’ve achieved something truly special—a project that everyone involved has enjoyed being a part of.
Xenia Creative Development Retreat Centre
Xenia Retreat Centre was what first drew me to Bowen Island in 2017 and became my home when I moved here in 2019. Working at Xenia has been a pleasure, and I’m grateful for the creative freedom Angelyn invites. From general repairs, maintenance and a handcrafted entrance sign to a loft conversion from salvaged materials only, Xenia has played a pivotal role in my creative journey on Bowen. As Barefoot Construction’s first official client last year, Angelyn entrusted us to craft a traditional entrance double gate from reclaimed beams on the property. I’m deeply thankful to Xenia for the opportunities and trust over the years.

After our first visit with Stephen to discuss his plans, we quickly became friends. Working on his clifftop property with its stunning ocean views—and taking full advantage of the midsummer heat—felt like a luxury. From daily cookies and coffee to his endless supply of hilarious stories, Steve made every day enjoyable, and we’re already looking forward to his next project.
